Start with the qualification and named programme

UMaT offers several entry routes, and the appropriate grade check depends on the qualification and course. Before comparing scores, write down whether you want a Certificate, Diploma or Degree and identify the particular programme.

This guide summarises selected WASSCE routes. Use the official programme statement for the final subject combination, campus and any additional conditions.

Certificate route

UMaT’s published weekend Certificate requirements ask WASSCE holders for five passes through E8, including English, Mathematics and Integrated Science. Other entry qualifications have separate conditions. Read UMaT Certificate requirements.

Count the required subjects individually. An acceptable total number of passes does not fix a missing compulsory subject. Confirm the available Certificate programme and its practical content before choosing it as a route towards further study.

Diploma route

The listed engineering Diplomas permit D7 in English, Mathematics and Integrated Science, with credits in the specified elective combination. Physics and Elective Mathematics feature in those requirements, with programme-dependent alternatives for another elective. Read UMaT Diploma requirements.

Compare the exact course name against the elective list. A relevant-looking subject should not be substituted without checking whether the university accepts it for that programme.

Degree route

UMaT’s Degree page provides programme-by-programme combinations. Many engineering routes specify core credits and science or technical electives. Some management programmes allow Social Studies in the core combination. Read the official UMaT Degree requirements.

Read the row for your intended course rather than applying one engineering rule to the whole university. Record both the general grades and any permitted elective substitutions.

Worked example: why the level matters

A student with English D7, Mathematics D7, Integrated Science C6 and relevant electives at C6 has a different profile under a Diploma rule than under a Degree rule requiring core credits. Select the Diploma course and verify every named elective before deciding to apply.

Another student has English E8, Mathematics D7, Science E8 and two other E8 passes. That profile meets the five-pass pattern described for the published Certificate route, but should not be carried into a Diploma assessment unchanged.

Both examples are illustrations of reading requirements. They do not establish acceptance onto a particular intake.

Prepare your application

Use the available UMaT qualification options in UniAdmission Checker for general grade checks. The tool does not resolve every programme-specific subject substitution, so compare its output with the official course page.

Review UMaT forms on SellePins and confirm the product covers your intended qualification before paying. Keep your examination details, documents and contact information ready.

If you plan to progress from a Certificate or Diploma, ask UMaT about the required award, classification and application procedure. Compare the full study costs and timetable with your circumstances before committing.
