Free SellePins Tool
Free BECE Aggregate Checker
Calculate your BECE aggregate using four required core subjects and your best two electives.
Understand your BECE aggregate
This free SellePins tool adds the grades you enter. It does not retrieve your WAEC results or calculate an official placement score. Use the grades on your statement of results; mock grades can be used only for practice.
How this calculator selects six subjects
- Enter English Language, Mathematics, Science (labelled Integrated Science in this form), and Social Studies.
- Add your other subjects with their grades. In this tool, “elective” means the other subjects available for selection.
- The calculator keeps all four required subjects, then selects the two lowest numerical grades from the other subjects.
- Add those six grades. A lower total represents stronger grades under this method. Six grade 1s total 6; six grade 9s total 54. Neither number is a placement decision.
Worked example 1: choosing the best two other subjects
These are fictional grades for illustration.
| Subject | Grade | Included? |
|---|---|---|
| English Language | 2 | Yes — required |
| Mathematics | 3 | Yes — required |
| Science | 2 | Yes — required |
| Social Studies | 1 | Yes — required |
| Religious and Moral Education | 1 | Yes — best other grade |
| Ghanaian Language | 2 | Yes — next best other grade |
| Computing | 3 | No |
| Career Technology | 4 | No |
Required subjects: 2 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 8.
Best two other subjects: 1 + 2 = 3.
Estimated aggregate: 8 + 3 = 11.
Worked example 2: a weaker core grade still counts
English 4, Mathematics 6, Science 3 and Social Studies 2 total 15. If the other grades are 1, 2, 5 and 7, the calculator selects 1 and 2: 15 + 1 + 2 = 18. The Mathematics grade 6 cannot be replaced with an extra elective. If two electives tie, either produces the same arithmetic total; this does not model any official placement tie-break.
What the result cannot tell you
- No guaranteed school or programme. This tool does not model vacancies, candidate rankings, programme requirements, school choices or placement tie-breaks. Check your actual placement through CSSPS.
- No conversion from marks. Do not assume a fixed percentage always means a particular BECE grade. WAEC explains that grade boundaries vary with candidate performance.
- No assumed grade for a missing result. Do not enter 0 or invent a grade for a withheld, cancelled or missing subject. The calculator stops for withheld or cancelled entries; follow WAEC guidance or contact your school about the official result.
- Combined results are a comparison only. The two-sitting mode selects the better grade for a repeated subject. Its output is not proof that CSSPS or an institution accepts combined BECE sittings. Confirm the applicable rules with the authority before relying on it.
- No official document. A saved or printed calculation is a SellePins planning summary, not a WAEC certificate, verified transcript or CSSPS placement slip. Incorrect inputs produce an incorrect estimate.
Official sources and next steps
The arithmetic above describes this calculator's method. These official sources explain examination grading and placement services; they do not endorse SellePins or certify its estimates.
- WAEC Ghana: BECE School — explains the nine-point grading scale, with 1 highest and 9 lowest.
- WAEC: explanation of BECE grading — clarifies stanine grading and why fixed percentage-to-grade tables can mislead.
- WAEC: BECE guidelines, scheme and structure — consult the examination guidance applicable to your sitting.
- Official CSSPS placement portal — check your assigned school and programme and follow the current instructions for your situation.
After calculating, review the six selected subjects against your results. Discuss your school and programme choices with a teacher or guidance counsellor, and use the official placement outcome when it becomes available.
