Read both the pass rule and the credit rule

UPSA’s Diploma requirements specify three core and three elective passes through D7, including English and Mathematics. At least three assessed subjects must be credits, and the relevant elective needs a credit. Read UPSA’s official Diploma requirements.

Counting six passes alone can therefore give an incomplete answer. Separate the questions “Do I have the required passes?” and “Do I have the required credits in the right subjects?” when reviewing your result.

Worked example: six passes with enough credits

Suppose an applicant has English D7, Mathematics C6, Social Studies C5, Economics C4, Business Management C6 and Financial Accounting D7. All six are passes through D7 and four are credits.

This profile satisfies the numerical pass-and-credit pattern in the example. The next question is whether the elective required for the chosen programme is one of the credit subjects. If Financial Accounting must be a credit for that application, the D7 still needs attention.

Compare a second applicant with six D7 grades. Six passes are present, but the additional credit condition is unmet. These applicants should not receive the same explanation simply because both have D7 somewhere in the result.

Diploma entry and Degree entry are separate decisions

Use the qualification-specific section when checking eligibility. A pass acceptable for a Diploma does not automatically meet a Degree’s credit requirement. Review the full rule for the intended course and any additional subject requirements.

If a Diploma is part of a longer-term Degree plan, ask about progression before applying. Find out which awards and classifications are accepted, whether admission is competitive and what level of entry may be available. Keep the answer in writing.

No. The additional credit requirement must also be met.
Can a relevant elective at D7 still be a problem?
Yes. The published rule requires a credit for the relevant elective, so check the specific programme.
