A D7, E8 or F9 does not tell the whole story of your admission options. The subject, your other grades, the programme and its entry route all matter. Start with your complete results and the current official requirements, rather than a list claiming that an entire university accepts every grade.

Separate a credit, a pass and a failed required subject

D7 and E8 are below the A1–C6 credit range; F9 is a fail. If a programme requires a credit in a particular subject, a D7 or E8 does not satisfy that condition. A good aggregate cannot automatically repair a missing compulsory subject credit. Equally, a weak grade in a subject not required for your chosen route may have a different effect.

Check the precise entry route

University of Ghana entry requirements distinguish general and programme-specific requirements. Its distance admission information gives a useful example: the diploma route lists six passes in the A1–D7 range, including English and Mathematics, with at least three relevant credits. This does not mean D7 is accepted for every UG degree, or that E8 and F9 meet that diploma rule.

Other diploma, certificate, technical or mature-entry routes must be checked individually. Mature admission may involve age, experience or an entrance assessment. A bridging programme is not an automatic route into any degree you choose.

Three examples to guide your decision

  • D7 in a required Mathematics subject: if the chosen degree requires C6 or better, investigate a resit or a different verified route.
  • F9 in an additional elective: check whether your remaining subjects meet every compulsory and relevant-elective condition. Do not assume rejection or eligibility from that one grade.
  • E8 alongside strong grades: ask which exact requirement is missing and whether a recognised alternative qualification would address it.

These are decision examples, not admission decisions. Only the institution can confirm your eligibility and offer a place.

When a resit is the practical choice

A resit can be useful when one or two subjects block a specific goal. Identify the target grade, obtain the correct syllabus and build a study plan around past mistakes. Read our WASSCE Private Candidates First Series guide for official timetable and centre information.

Before registering, ask the university whether it accepts combined sittings for your intended programme, which results it needs and when they must arrive. Do not assume a later result can be added after an application or enrolment deadline.

Ask admissions a useful question

Write: “I am applying for [programme and intake] through [entry route]. My grades are [subjects and grades]. Please confirm whether I meet the subject requirements and whether results from two sittings are accepted.” Send it through an address published by the university. Save the reply and compare it with the prospectus before buying a form.

Check accreditation, duration, progression rules and total cost for any alternative programme. A lower-entry route can still be a serious commitment, and progression may require another application or minimum performance.

Compare options before paying

The SellePins Student Admission Guide is an optional paid planning resource with selected routes and source links. It does not guarantee admission or replace current university requirements. You can use the official sources above without buying it.

Already applied? Read what to do while waiting for admission. If a result cannot be found, first use our results-checking troubleshooting checklist rather than assuming your grade has changed.

Frequently asked questions

Can I enter university with D7?

Possibly through a route whose published requirements accept it, provided you meet all other conditions. It is not a substitute for a required credit.

Will a resit guarantee admission?

No. The improved result must meet the programme rules, and selection, deadlines and available places still apply.
