Can You Combine WASSCE and NOVDEC Results for Admission in Ghana?
Learn what to verify before combining school and private WASSCE results, how to record each sitting and how to avoid application errors.
Confirm the receiving institution’s rules
You may be able to use school and private-candidate WASSCE results together where the university and programme permit that combination. Confirm the number of sittings accepted, any subject restrictions and the required method of entering both records. A stronger combined grade profile is useful only if the admission route accepts it.
“NOVDEC” is commonly used for private-candidate examinations. Use the actual examination type, year and sitting shown on your record when applying.
What an official application instruction can establish
KNUST’s application guide tells applicants to enter examination details and use “add results” when they have more than one result or certificate. This supports submitting multiple records through the application process; it does not by itself establish every programme’s permitted combination or maximum number of sittings. Read KNUST’s application guide.
Ask the receiving institution a specific question: “For this programme and intake, may I use these two WASSCE sittings, and which result details must I enter?” Include the examination years and intended qualification without publishing your private identifiers in a public comment.
Worked example: improving one subject
Suppose your school result contains English C5, Mathematics D7, Social Studies C4 and relevant electives B3, C4 and C5. The illustrative total is 28. You later obtain Mathematics C4 in a private sitting.
If the institution accepts that combination, replacing seven points with four changes the illustrative total to 25 and improves the Mathematics grade to a credit. You still need to meet all other programme conditions.
Keep the original records intact. Combining results for assessment means presenting the accepted evidence from each sitting, rather than creating an edited result slip.

Prepare both records carefully
- Record the exact examination type, year, sitting and index number for each result.
- Check that personal details are consistent, and ask the institution how to handle any discrepancy.
- Follow the application portal’s instructions for additional results and document uploads.
- Review every entered subject and grade before final submission.
- Save the completed application and any written confirmation about the accepted combination.
If a portal has only one visible results field, use its help instructions or contact admissions. Do not invent a combined index number or conceal the second sitting.
Calculate first, then check the admission route
The SellePins WASSCE Aggregate Checker includes a combined-results mode. Treat the calculated profile as a planning aid until the university confirms its acceptance.
UniAdmission Checker evaluates the grades entered against supported general requirements. It does not authenticate results or approve a multiple-sitting combination. Confirm those questions before using a combined profile for an application.
For preparation and registration guidance, read our private-candidate examination guide. Once the intended route is confirmed, review the relevant university application form.
