Student Loan Applications in Ghana: Requirements and How to Apply
Check SLTF student-loan requirements in Ghana, prepare your documents, follow the official application process and understand repayment before accepting funding.
A student loan can help finance eligible tertiary study, but it is borrowing with repayment obligations. Begin with the Students Loan Trust Fund’s current application portal and campus support office. Do not pay an intermediary for a supposed guaranteed approval or use an old screenshot as the final checklist.
Check the current SLTF requirements
The SLTF application notice lists Ghanaian applicants admitted to an accredited tertiary programme in Ghana at diploma or first-degree level. It requests a valid Ghana Card, active telephone number, email, student identification or admission letter, and an e-zwich card. Confirm the requirements displayed when you apply, including any additional checks for your situation.
Prepare legible copies and make sure names and contact details agree. If something differs, ask SLTF how to resolve it instead of altering an official document.
Follow the official application sequence
- Open the official SLTF application portal and create your own account.
- Complete activation and sign in using the instructions supplied.
- Enter accurate details and upload the requested supporting documents.
- Review the application and complete any agreements the portal requires.
- Follow the stated instructions for biometric completion at a campus or zonal office.
- Keep your reference and monitor the official account for follow-up requests.
SLTF’s current notice says there is no processing fee. Application completion does not by itself establish approval or a disbursement date.
What if an older guide asks for different documents?
Some older web pages and copied checklists describe a different application process. Use the current portal and ask an SLTF officer to resolve a conflict before travelling or obtaining extra documents. Record the question and the official reply. This guide does not treat old guarantor or loan-amount information as a current universal requirement.
Read the borrowing terms before accepting
Check the actual amount offered, repayment start conditions, applicable interest or charges, payment schedule and what happens if your studies or employment situation changes. Ask for clarification where the agreement is unclear. This article does not quote a universal loan amount or rate because the terms applying to your application must come from SLTF.
Keep a copy of the agreement and maintain access to your registered contact details. Inform the fund through its official process when information changes. Plan for repayment rather than treating the loan as a scholarship.
Avoid common application problems
Check file readability, names, programme details and contact information before submitting. Do not create several accounts to work around a login issue. Use the official recovery or support route and keep a record of the error. Never give a helper your password, wallet PIN or OTP.
Be cautious of promises to speed up disbursement for a fee. Use contact details reached through the official SLTF website, not a number pasted into an unsolicited message.
Plan for the period before disbursement
Prepare a student budget based on confirmed funds and actual fee deadlines. Ask your university about approved payment arrangements if needed; do not assume a pending loan automatically extends an enrolment deadline. Compare scholarships and university financial aid because eligibility, repayment and timing differ. SellePins is not SLTF and does not approve or process loans.
