Ghana Becomes 2nd in Africa to Launch Knowledge & Skills Portal: The good news is Ghana has now become the second country in Africa to have its own Knowledge and Skills portal. This portal grants access to about five million online library archives, learning resources, and tools. It is like a bank full of knowledge and skill. The event leading to this incredible achievement occurred at the Accra Digital Centre on September 17, 2024. The Education and Communication Ministries collaborated to make this dream come into reality. The purpose is to enhance knowledge acquisition and skill development in Ghana.
The brain behind developing the Knowledge and Skills portal is Npontu Technologies, a Ghanaian-owned company. They had support from the Telecommunication Network MTN and funding from the World Bank.
Ghana Becomes 2nd in Africa to Launch Knowledge & Skills Portal
Speaking at the launch of the GKSB, the Communications Minister, Honorable Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said that the platform is filled with approved learning materials that align with our educational system. Only two countries in Africa have this kind of platform, Ghana and Egypt. Ghana’s platform is integrated with AI features.
The Minister showed a strong belief that the platform will be a great place for equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary for today’s digital age. Furthermore, there is the inclusion of TVET courses and modules which is great as it will help build the skills of Technical students.
The portal is not only going to contain information generated in Ghana but also content from some of the world’s reputable institutes filled with great information such as Cambridge University Press, Cengage Learning, and many others. From the look of things, the portal will be a one-stop shop for knowledge acquisition and it will be linked to the other existing portals for ease of reference.
According to the Minister in Charge of Education Dr Yaw Adutwum, there is a big positive change going on in the education sector and he added that the Ghana Knowledge and Skills Bank is modeled after the Egyptian Knowledge Bank.
It is very easy to get access to the materials in the portal. To log in, you only need your national ID.
